“A believer is he who loves for his brother what he loves for himself”, this is the Golden principle outlined by words of the last Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him). Applying this to interfaith means that there has to be an element of genuine love in interfaith encounters and what a better way of showing this love than inviting people to ones’ sacred place of worship. In light of these sentiments, on the 29th of July Blacktown Mosque held its 2nd annual open day.
The Muslim community in Blacktown were very eager to meet their local non-Muslim residents in their own Mosque and they came in large numbers. The local churches helped promote the event and representatives came from them also. What made this Open Day unique was that an Art Gallery was set up where the attendees saw glimpses of Islamic Art and culture.
Organised by Affinity youth and the Blacktown Mosque youth, the day proved that the Houses of God are open for all regardless of race and religion. While Imam Hadid highlighted that “we are all flowers of the same garden and we need to work together to build this great country of ours”, Bishop Kevin Manning added that ‘we are ready and wanting to work together with you to promote the One God’.
