Affinity visits Berry
24-Jan-07
On 24 of January, Affinity Intercultural Foundation was invited to give a talk to religious education teachers at St. Patrick’s Church, Berry NSW. Mehmet Ozalp along with three male affinity members attended the event.
There were about 20 religious education teachers who attended the talk which discussed theological topics including God in Islam; the Prophet (pbuh); Qur’an and its compilation; the five pillars; and Islam’s perspective on Jesus (pbuh). Contemporary topics that were also discussed included jihad and terrorism.
The teachers present found the information extremely interesting and the opportunity very informative. Rifat Cakir then gave a short speech on being a young Australian Muslim. Speaking from his personal experiences Rifat also spoke about his current studies in Egypt to learn more about Islam with the hope to come back and positively contribute to Australian society.
ffinity member Fatih Aydogan said “The sincerity of the teachers in correctly learning and teaching Islam to their students was evident from the amount of questions they asked us”. The day proved to be a great success in managing to breakdown the many misconceptions and misunderstandings that people have about Islam and Muslims.
