Talk at Gordon Uniting Church Women's Weekend Retreat

Saturday 5th May

Gordon Uniting church held its annual ‘Women’s Week’ at Elanora Conference Centre around the Northern Beaches on 5th May, with this years’ focus being women in interfaith.

Aisha Meguid, Rahile Ansari  and Tamkin Ansari along with a Jewish and Hindu speaker were invited to share their faith and interfaith experiences.

The talk covered the role of interfaith for a Muslim and the significance given to it by both the Quran and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

Miss Rahile Ansari’s talk was centred on spirituality in Islam. Rahile used the infamous sun analogy to communicate to the ladies the importance of truly understanding God as is within mans capabilities, through his attributes.

Ms Aisha Meguid concluded the talks covering her daily life as a Muslim woman. Aisha explained some of the key principles of the Islamic faith and demonstrated to the ladies how a Muslim performs the obligatory five daily prayers, describing the meaning of the movements as she proceeded. She continued on to recite Al-Fatiha, the opening chapter of the Quran.

The ladies had set up four candles to represent each speaker and accordingly each speaker lit one candle to start the ‘Interfaith Prayer’, hymns and collective prayers of thanks were shared and enjoyed by all.

The atmosphere, the attitude of the ladies and speakers, the feeling of peace and almost instant respect for one another was truly overwhelming.
