Muslim Student Nisa's Speech
In the name of God the Most
Gracious the Most Merciful
Good afternoon fellow students,
honorable Moris Lemma, parents and teachers. My name is Nisa Nur Terzi. I am
here with you today for a very special purpose. To discuss the topic "my
identity and place in Australia." I would first like to start off by talking
a bit about myself. I am an Australian born Muslim with a Turkish background.
I am no different from any other Australian living in this country in terms
of living in the community and sharing true human values.
I listen to music. I watch
Rove Live 9:30 Tuesday's. I eat my meat pies and my fish and chips (with tomato
sauce) and I watch Simpsons which is a daily part of my life. The only difference
between us is the way I look and my dressing which I must add comes from my
convictions and belief. Differences in appearance should not separate us as
Australians because we are similar on the inside.
It is apparent that Christians,
Jews and Muslims share similar heritage. They ask help and forgiveness from
the creator God Almighty. They all declare the importance of peace so it is
only natural to say that the followers of these traditions would be able to
establish peace together all around the world.
Understanding one another,
respecting each other and accepting others as they are would be a great step
towards solving global problems of the different religious communities. The
more we understand the global crisis, the more a suitable habitat for humankind
this world will become.
As a Muslim my view is:
We are all humans,
We are all the children of Adam and Eve,
We share the same world,
We share religions of the same root,
We breathe the same air,
We use the same sun,
Being human, we share the same feelings,
Anything that makes you sad makes me sad too,
Anything that makes you happy makes me happy too,
Therefore we are all brothers and sisters.
To sum up, we have many
common ground to share this precious life among us and not enough reason to
argue and fight over. We should all learn to accept one another with those minor
differences and show respect for each other, because our similarities do indeed
outweigh our differences.
Thank You
