On Sunday, 14th of February, Affinity were partners in a gathering entitled "Shaping our Future Together", a multi-faith celebration on the second anniversary of the National Apology to Australia's Aboriginal People. Held in the suburb of Kurnell, the program outlined "What Follows Sorry", a look at steps and actions that can be taken after the official apology was given by our Prime Minister, The Hon Kevin Rudd on 13/2/2008.
Affinity Intercultural Foundation along with its partners, which included, Sutherland Shire Council, NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, The Hindu Council of Australia, The NSW State Reconciliation Council, Kurranulla Aboriginal Corporation, Members of the Sutherland & La Perouse Aboriginal communities, came together to mark this memorable event in Aboriginal reconciliation.
A luncheon was held prior to the event, where delicious foods from all cultures were provided over conversation. Affinity President, Mr Mehmet Saral, along with the various faith leaders from Jewish, Hindu, Christian faiths, made a prayer for the continuing efforts in reconciliation.
Leaders from various communities, gave a short talk on reconciliation on behalf of their respective affiliations. Afterwards, guests were treated to a traditional Aboriginal fire service and dance. Group discussions were held.
Overall a great event showing that people of different faiths and cultures can come together with the hope of reconciling our future in Australia.
