On the evening of Saturday, 8th May 2010, the Nan Tien Temple held a Multifaith Prayer for World Peace and Light Offering Ceremony on Buddha's Birthday at the Chinese Gardens in Darling Harbour. The Nan Tien Temple invited members of several religious communities in an opportunity to promote peace and make prayers for world harmony. Affinity Intercultural Foundation President Mr Mehmet Saral and executive members Mr Muhamed Cengic and Mrs Sumeyra Ulker participated at the event.
The event started with the offering of light by all attendees, a prayer by the Nan Tien Temple monk's, followed by peace offerings by an Anglican Minister. Afterwards, Quran recitation by Imam Bilal Aksoy, the Imam of Auburn Gallipoli Mosque, with translations by Affinity executive member Mr Muhammed Cengic was conducted. Finally there was a Hindu peace prayer conducted by the Hindu community.The night was a true example of how different cultures and faiths can come together in an effort to make a difference.
The Nan Tien Temple also celebrated Buddha's 2554th Birthday with lion dances and other musical performances. Stalls were also available to the public offering calligraphy lessons, lantern painting, guessing lantern riddles and origami.
