On the 11th of May Affinity Intercultural Foundation President Mehmet Saral was invited by the Australian Federal Police to have breakfast with the new Commissioner Tony Negus.
The breakfast was held by the AFP in a bid to help strengthen the relationship they have with the Muslim community of Sydney. This is a very positive step, especially with such a sensitive topic as ‘Homeland Security’
Key organisations and individuals were invited from the Muslim community, Affinity Intercultural Foundation being one of them. President Mehmet Saral and Secretary Rahile Ansari attended the breakfast, in which Mr Negus spoke about the continuing relationship between the AFP and the Muslim community and its importance in keeping Australia safe.
Guests were welcomed to ask questions and raise concerns to the Commissioner including the role media plays in marginalising Muslim communities and in turn the role education will play in improving understanding between the AFP and the Australian Muslims.
Mr Negus mentioned how today is not ‘about a quick 5 minute fix’ but rather a stepping stone for a better future. He thanked his team in Sydney for their works and thanked the guests for attending.
