On a saturday morning, late July, Auburn Council honoured the outgoing MP for Reid, the Hon Laurie Ferguson with a tree planting ceremony.
The Auburn Mayor, Hicham Zreika invited a host of community leaders to witness a tree planting at Auburn Botanical gardens to symbolise the work Laurie Ferguson has done in the area.
Mr Mehmet Saral and Mr Ahmet Keskin were amongst the invited members, where special praise was given by one of the honorary speaker Hon Barbara Perry (MP for Auburn) who said ‘it is a great honour to have Affinity reside in my electorate as I along with many others appreciate the work they have done in the intercultural area, allowing people of all faiths and backgrounds to share and cherish the common value we all have – respect”
Shortly afterwards, Hon Laurie Ferguson also addressed the audience and he too was praising the work Affinity. In particular he referenced the Anti Terror Summit of 2005 and the courage Affinity displayed in taking on a seriously critical event head on.
The incoming MP for Reid, the Hon John Murphy praised the work the Hon Laurie Ferguson did for the area and said he was looking forward to meeting and working the local community organisations.
The morning concluded with tea and coffee.
