On Monday, 23rd of August, Mr Mehmet Saral and Mr Ahmet Keskin attended the NSW Premier’s Iftar Dinner.
This iftar began in 2004 and was initiated by Affinity with the then Premier Bob Carr and has been held every year since during the Labor Government’s reign.
At the iftar, there were not only leaders from the Muslim Community but also leaders from other faiths as well as politician’s. There were ~300 people who attended the iftar at NSW Parliament House Strangers Room.
After some interesting discussions during dinner, the NSW Premier The Hon Kristina Kinneally gave a very well versed speech (Premier Keneally IFTAR Speech 2010) in which she told of the contributions of Muslims to Australia which dated back to the Afghani camel drivers to today.
