Recently, Vice President Ahmet Keskin was invited to a dinner in Canberra with the visiting Dr Anwar Ibrahim, the former Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia. The dinner was hosted by Bluestar Intercultural Foundation where local religious, academic and public service personalities also attended. Mr Keskin was the facilitator for the evening.
Dr Ibrahim talked about the challenges that Malaysia is facing and how the key to overcome some of their obstacles would be to adopt a transparent government that focuses on justice and equality. He was delighted to see that intercultural work in Australia has come along in leaps and bounds from his previous trip and this time he noticed the Muslim organisations were taken the initiative. He was praising the work Affinity is doing to foster greater harmony in society as he believes this inclusive approach is what he will be modeling in Malaysia, if he gets to govern Malaysia.
The evening was very engaging as local members were able to share experiences and benefit from Dr Ibrahim’s personal triumphs. Mr Keskin thanked Dr Ibrahim for his efforts in promoting harmony in pluralistic societies and referenced how he, during his term in office, was a dedicated servant of his people.
