On the 12th of November 2010, a group of Iraqi policemen visited Auburn for a cultural tour. They were accompanied by officials from the NSW Police Force. This was the Iraqi Police’s first visit to Australia. This was part of NSW Police’s program and bilateral relations with the Iraqi authorities in exchanging experiences and best practice.
The tour started early in the morning where the 25 member delegation toured Auburn Gallipoli Mosque.
This was followed by a session at the Affinity office, where Vice President Ahmet Keskin gave a presentation on Affinity and its accomplishments over the past ten years. This was a very engaging session as the visitors were pleasantly surprised to see community engagement being one of the key activities of Affinity and how they have an inclusive outlook in their work.
One of the key messages Mr Keskin tried to highlight was Affinity’s role in being the first Muslim based organisation to initiate events which was focussing on social cohesion where members from all walks of life are respected, understood and accepted by all.
Following this the group went to Mado for some beautiful Turkish food.
It was Affinity’s great pleasure to work with the NSW Police Force and we hope to continue working together in the near future.
