On Monday the 21st of March, Affinity Vice President Ahmet Keskin attended the Sule College Girls High School Harmony day program.
Affinity had also arranged a special guest Sr Giovanni Farquer, the Director of the Commission for Ecumenism and Inter Religious Relations for the Archdiocese of Sydney to address the young girls about social harmony, leadership and nurturing strong values.
Sr Farquer related a story Aware of the school's academic achievements as well as its sporting accomplishments and strong commitment to civic and social issues, Sr Giovanni chose the story of Esther, the Jewish Prophetess and Queen to inspire students as well as show the true meaning of what it means to be a leader.
"In all likelihood some very significant leaders will emerge from Sule College and Queen Esther signifies the true power of leadership as distinct from perceived power that is characterised by wealth, influence and subjugation," she said.Esther's story is recounted in the Old Testament scriptures, which all Abrahamic faiths have in common whether those studying the scriptures are Muslim, Jewish or Christian.
"In a bid to save her people, Esther fasted for three days and before entering the presence of Ahsuerus, the King of Persia, 'she donned royalty.' This does not mean she 'donned Royal clothes' but rather she donned true royalty, and became a true and powerful leader and servant of her people, devoid of ego and filled with the Spirit of God," Sr Giovanni explained.
Along with dancing, traditional songs and celebrations of various cultures, Sule College also commemorated Harmony Day with special foods from different countries.
